Cleaning Prior To Coating

Pre-Cleaning is Vital to Powder Coating Success! - Document
Posted on August 25, 2026
Most parts that are manufactured have contaminants on their surfaces from the manufacturing process. These contaminants can vary from water soluble coolants, lubricants, cutting oils, machining chips/fines, dirt, and other miscellaneous items that are contingent upon the manufacturing processes itself. Whether the substrates are metals or plastics, the contaminants must be removed before the following powder coating process. The pre-cleaning process cannot damage or affect the substrate material’s surfaces. It also cannot leave residues that could affect the adhesion quality of the powder coat.
